This was part of the Edwardes Estate. In 1873 Lord Kensington agreed to lease the land on which Nevern Road would be built, to Charles Hunt, a Kensington builder. Hunt had to construct to roads and sewers and a minimum number of houses, which had to be built by 1878 to plans approved by Lord Kensington’s surveyor. The Edwardes family came from Pembrokeshire originally and this road was named after a village there.
Nos. 1-17 (odd) on the west side and Nos. 2-18 (even) on the east side – both split by Longridge Road – were built by Charles Hunt in 1876-7. These were grander houses than those Hunt was building in Longridge Road. They are on four storeys above semi basements. There is more decorative stucco on the façades. Instead of sharing porticos between two houses, each house has its own Doric portico entrance.
