Corbett and McClymont were the main developers of the Gunters’ estates south of Old Brompton Road. Sometimes they took the leases of sites and did the building work themselves. Sometimes they arranged for other nominated builders to take over part of the work and to take the site leases.
This was part of James Gunter II’s part of the estate. He granted leases of the sites of Nos. 2, 4 and 6 to Corbett and McClymont in 1866, but at the same time granted leases of Nos. 1, 3 and 5 to John Beale, with whom Corbett and McClymont often collaborated.
